 William Thomas Clothier, son of Mary and John Clothier , was a farm labourer who was born and lived in Maiden Newton. Following his marriage to Beartrice Charlotte Abbott at Bradford Peverall on 13^th May 1912, the couple settled at Quarr in Maiden Newton. Here they had five children who were all born in the village: Florence May Abbott Clothier (11^th September 1912), Daisy Alice Clothier (7^th February 1914), Olive Irene Clothier (2^nd August 1915), Reginald Charles Clothier (30^th June 1917) and Kathleen Rose Clothier (11^th September 1918).

William Thomas Clothier enlisted at Maiden Newton and, after being wounded in action in 1917, he was posted to England for recuperation. He then returned to active service in France. Gunner William Thomas Clothier was probably killed in action during the Battle of Poelcappelle on 9^th October 1918.
