Name : William Thomas CLOTHIER. William Thomas Clothier, son of Mary and John Clothier , was a farm labourer who was born and lived in Maiden Newton. Following his marriage to Beartrice Charlotte Abbott at Bradford Peverall on 13th May 1912, the couple settled at Quarr in Maiden Newton. Here they had five children who were all born in the village: Florence May Abbott Clothier (11th September 1912), Daisy Alice Clothier (7th February 1914), Olive Irene Clothier (2nd August 1915), Reginald Charles Clothier (30th June 1917) and Kathleen Rose Clothier (11th September 1918). William Thomas Clothier enlisted at Maiden Newton and, after being wounded in action in 1917, he was posted to England for recuperation. He then returned to active service in France. Gunner William Thomas Clothier was probably killed in action during the Battle of Poelcappelle on 9th October 1918.
