The focus of a scheme known as Church Watch which started in 1993 and which aimed to stop the theft and vandalism of the old church. Thirty people came forward and their actions helped to ensure the day-to-day safety of the church. There was a fire in March 2011 which damaged the church but the fire crews minimised the damage.
