Maiden Newton has celebrated the new millennium by unveiling a commemorative stone, which also marks the site of the ancient village pound. A piece of Portland stone was donated by Hanson Europe Ltd to create the memorial. There are several people in the village who have been associated with the stone and quarry industry.
